Reclaiming power through choice
months of practising trauma-sensitive yoga had helped monika learn that she alone decides what to do with her body. she can change a shape if it doesn’t feel right. her needs matter

we fill every pause with information. every silence with stimulation. and slowly, our minds become overactive while our bodies fall out of rhythm.
The body keeps the score, but it also keeps the hope.

How a body-led approach to recovery encourages us to take back control over our lives
a body-led approach to recovery is not about fixing or pushing past what hurts.
it is about learning to live differently in your own skin.
by working gently with body, breath and awareness, we begin to reclaim choice in the present moment.
and in that practice, we slowly take back authority over our lives.
WHAT IS TRAUMA SENSITIVE YOGA?
Yoga (body-breath-mind tools) can be so effective at re-connecting us with the experience of safely living in our bodies, without fear of their sensations minute-to-minute, that Dr Bessel van der Kolk, together with Yoga teacher David Emerson, pioneered Trauma Sensitive Yoga as a therapeutic tool at the Trauma Center in Boston, Massachusetts (now called the Center for Trauma and Embodiment).
